Religion

Religion is a manmade thing, Christianity is a
relationship with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.  We use the term religion generically for all
faiths and philosophies, from atheism to monotheism and everything in between,
including, but not limited to, paganism, hedonism, humanism, environmentalism,
and a host of other “isms”.

America was founded on the ethics of the
Judeo-Christian philosophy.  John Adams
wrote that we “have no government armed with power capable of contending with
human passions unbridled by morality and religion…. Our Constitution was made
only for a moral and religious people.
It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other.”

In 1791 Dr. Benjamin Rush wrote in an educational
policy paper, “In contemplating the political institutions of the United
States, [if we remove the Bible from schools] I lament that we waste so much
time and money in punishing crimes and take so little pains to prevent them.”

We’ve strayed and splintered from our religious roots
to the detriment of our nation.  Many
argue that religion has caused more pain, suffering, and death throughout world
history than any other institution.
Perversion of the Judeo-Christian standard has caused much harm, however
the triple threat of communism, socialism, and atheism has resulted in millions
of deaths.  Whether or not Hitler believed
he was doing the work of a higher power or if he just believed in his own power
could be debated ad nauseam.

Some argue that religion was invented to control the
people.  In the movie “Easy Rider” Peter
Fonda has the line, “If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him.”  This may be true, but He does exist and His
gifts of free will, conscience, and everlasting soul are all the tools we need
for self-control.

Since our failure and fall in the Garden of Eden we
have been locked in the battle of good and evil.  I believe it was Todd Friel who said, “We
aren’t sinners because we sin, we sin because we’re sinners.”  Will any generic religion or philosophy save
us?  No.
Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for our sins.  Only through Him can we be saved and live in
a state of grace.  God has made this so
easy for us.  Simply ask and accept Jesus
into your heart.  With Him anything is possible.
